Project: Managing Risks with Canada's Abandoned Mines
and Contaminated Sites
Abandoned mines and contaminated sites pose a threat to human health and the environment and have social and economic impacts in their communities. Stratos has worked with federal and provincial/territorial governments to develop policies and programs and to increase the effectiveness of management systems
for contaminated sites. This has included developing and implementing new management tools to reduce environmental, social and financial risks. Stratos has supported the development of strategies and management systems for the largest abandoned mine sites in Canada's North: Giant Mine, a former gold mine
in the NWT and the Faro Mine in the Yukon Territory.
