FOOD AND AGRICULTURE
Global food and agriculture systems are under significant stress. The combined demands of population growth, the changing climate, malnutrition and obesity are placing operational, competitive and regulatory pressures on food producers, retailers, regulators, enforcement agencies and public policy makers. The changing landscape of food supply and demand is driving collaborative approaches that span food value chains and is changing practices from farms through to homes across Canada and internationally.
Stratos works with partners across the food value chain to promote secure, transparent and sustainable food systems. We help our clients understand the drivers, the practices and build the partnerships necessary to meet our food needs for today and tomorrow.
We can help you to understand what sustainable food means for your organization and how to improve your performance.

Clients and Projects
Client: Walmart Canada
Project: Sustainability Advisory Services
Stratos helped the Walmart Canada team set new standards for environmental performance in the design, construction and operation of its new 400,000 square foot perishable food distribution centre in North Calgary. Our advice and analysis
of sustainability issues helped Walmart set goals and objectives and develop performance management and reporting tools with a particular focus on energy, waste and water use. Stratos also provided training and education and conducted onsite environmental reviews to ensure strong delivery. Walmart Canada's new distribution centre, connecting its food delivery network in Western Canada, has been widely recognized for its innovative approach, which included implementing novel fuel cell and LED technologies.
Client: Leading food and agriculture companies and organizations
Project: Canadian Agriculture Sustianability Dialogue
The Canadian Agriculture Sustainability Dialogue (CASD) is a voluntary marketdriven program that promotes Canadian agriculture sustainability around the world and connects stakeholders in the public and private sectors across the value-chain. Stratos acted as the secretariat to help develop the initiative through our expertise in multi-stakeholder engagement and industry sustainability programs. Our goal was to shape the dialogue to promote ongoing collaboration and build on existing industry initiatives. We facilitated discussions across the value chain, building a common understanding of Canadian and international expectations on sustainable agriculture.
