Strategies to Sustainability

As we work toward a more sustainable world, Stratos recognizes that it has a responsibility to lead by example. We run our business in an environmentally and socially sustainable way, one that contributes to the well-being of our stakeholders – clients, employees and the communities in which we operate. Reflecting this commitment, Stratos has an active Corporate Social Responsibility program, and our company initiatives include:

Our First Sustainability Report

In 2009, Stratos released its first sustainability report. This report presents an account of our approach to meeting our vision and our 2008 sustainability performance.  We hope this report enables you, our employees, clients, partners and stakeholders to better understand our performance and to more effectively hold us to account for performance improvements.

Carbon-Neutral Company

We are a carbon-neutral company, as certified by Offsetters. We monitor the greenhouse gas emissions associated with our office operations and employee/business travel and purchase equivalent tonnes of CO2 offsets.

Stratos is an Imagine Company

Stratos is proud to be an Imagine Company, supporting community projects by donating 1% of pre-tax profits to non-profit organizations and allowing employees to take volunteer days. Stratos has an ongoing relationship with Pollution Probe supporting internship opportunities that contribute to community projects. We also volunteer at the Ottawa Food Bank and local Mission. Employee and Community Well-Being

  • Employees benefit from flexible work schedules and profit sharing.
  • We have an intership program to provide opportunities and skills development for up and coming sustainability practitioners.
  • We contribute to our community by participating in such local events as the Commuter Challenge, Spring Cleaning the Capital, Shoreline Cleanup, Lunch Money Day for the Ottawa Food Bank, and annual charity baseball event.

John Lark Chair of Rotary Home Foundation

In keeping with Stratos’ commitment to be an integral part of our community, our Risk Practice Manager, John Lark, serves as Chair of the Ottawa Rotary Home Foundation.  The Foundation and its Campaign Executive Committee successfully raised over $6.8 million to build a new 18,000 square foot Rotary Home to provide respite care for children and adults in Eastern Ontario.

Day-to-Day Operations

  • All the paper we use at Stratos is derived from 100% post-consumer recycled fibre.
  • All of our reports and working papers are printed double-sided.
  • We purchase fair-trade, organic beverage supplies.
